Amarelli is one of the oldest family businesses in the world still in operation. The family has been processing liquorice in Rossano, Calabria, since the 16th century, and in 1731 Giorgio Amarelli founded the first real liquorice factory – concion. The same family still runs the company, and Amarelli belongs to the prestigious Les Hénokiens association, which only accepts companies that are over 200 years old and have remained in the same family's ownership.

Black Label is Amarelli's purest product and according to the family themselves, their range grand cru. It's 100% licorice – no sugar, no sweeteners, no flavorings, no fillers. Only licorice extracted from selected roots from the Siberian Plain, once named the best in the world by the Encyclopædia Britannica.
